We are a purpose built community not-for-profit early years education service.  We provide places for children aged from 1 to 5 years, and we currently have capacity for 90 full-time children. Our programme is designed to offer quality education and care, based on the principles Siolta the National Quality Frame Work. We have adopted principles of High /Scope Plan Do review, room set and Reggio Emilia approach where positive relationships between children, families, teachers, peers, environment, and local community are seen as paramount to children’s learning and development. Our unique programme is used throughout the centre, in a format designed for each specific age group, Waddlers, Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers. We take great pride in our centre and the fact that families for two generations have enrolled their children with us.

Our Mission  is to…Provide quality early years service that is an integrated, accessible, quality early year’s education programme to children from Fatima and surrounding areas, in an active learning, child-centered environment and to  built on our belief that children have a natural disposition for learning and an innate curiosity that, when intentionally and carefully nurtured, blossoms into a life-long love of learning.

Our Aim Is to focus on the total development of the child in partnership with the family, and to act as an advocate for good child practice in Fatima and the wider community. 

We will endeavour to provide a physically and emotionally richly resourced and safe environment where children can be secure in their sense of belonging, where they are valued as individuals and are given opportunities to become confident and competent learners.

We will ensure that all children’s individual needs are met by provide child-led active learning programme where children are enabled and supported to reach their full potential through play, and were the  needs and interests are, observed  assessed and documented and this information will then be used to plan for their learning and address needs.

Our Curriculum helps to ensure that each child’s holistic developmental needs are met and to achieve this staff must cover important learning areas, adopt common approaches with all children, and reach for a certain level of quality across age groups.  Our curriculum sees play in an active learning environment as central to a child’s learning and development. Through the programme children are encouraged in language and cognitive development, and nurtured within as natural an environment as possible We are guided by:  Aistear (The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework) and Siolta (The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education).                      

Environments The space is carefully arranged to promote active learning, to achieve this there are defined interest areas that include a house, construction, art, table top and quiet areas all of which reflect the children’s interests.

Key Worker System Each child is allocated a senior childcare worker on their first day of preschool. The Key worker will be the teacher your child will have for the year. This system is valuable to all involved, and allows the child, family and staff to get to know each other better and helps each child achieve the most they possibly can during their time at the centre.

Observation, Assessment & Planning To ensure children’s development needs are met we carry out observations, assessments and which help plan for children’s development needs.

Observations  are carried out daily and an in-depth one is completed once a term these observations look at what a child can achieve, where they may need support  and what they like and dislike.

Assessment  All aspects of the child’s development and learning is considered when assessing how a child is developing. A Development report is completed with each child’s parents so we can include the parents knowledge of their own childs development in the report.

Planning Key workers will use information from observations and assessment to plan for children’s development needs and extended learning opportunities or to decide if a referral needs to be made to other professional service.

Links  with  other Agencies As part of our work with children and families, we work in partnership with local and national agencies to promote the well-being of all children and their families. Should we need to link with other agencies regarding children or families this is done in conjunction with parents, unless information is required under child protection and linking with the parents will put the child at further risk. Agencies we may link with: Family Support, Public Health Nurses, Social Work, Speech & Language Therapist, National Schools etc.
